The City of Superior Departments of Planning and Development, Building Inspection and Fire Department are hosting a zoning, building, and fire code symposium on March 20th, 2025 from 7:30 am to 10:00 am at the Barker’s Island Inn and Convention Center, 300 Marina Drive, Superior, WI 54880.
The main goal of this symposium is to define and simplify state and local regulations as they relate to the selling and/or potential rehabilitation of EXISTING structures within the City of Superior. Our target audience is realtors, banking institutions, architects, and building owners. However, we will not turn away anyone that is interested in attending.
One of the City of Superior’s priorities is the development of housing in our downtown areas, particularly above our commercial storefronts. With that comes state and local regulations that can seem daunting. The purpose of this meeting is highlighting those regulations but also gather input so that the City can help develop policy to help break down barriers that may exist.
The program on March 20 includes:
- Introductory Remarks by Mayor Jim Paine
- Chief Building Inspector Brian Bustrak and his staff presenting on the commercial codes and how change of use of a space affects permitting and construction.
- Superior Fire Chief Camron Vollbrecht and Fire Inspector Caleb Sorvik discussing commercial fire code and how it relates to rehabilitation of existing commercial structures.
- Planning Director Jason Serck speaking about how zoning code affects housing and where commercial uses and residential uses can and cannot mix.
Doors will open at 7:30 am with the program beginning at 8:00 am sharp. The City of Superior will be providing a breakfast buffet as a thanks for attending. The is no cost for this event.
